A memorable three-peat stole the show as the ACT strata community celebrated its best across 11 business, project and individual categories at the Hyatt Hotel Canberra.
Vantage Strata took out the night’s big prize at the CHU SCA (ACT) 2021 Strata Community Awards on Friday, 18 February.
For the third year in succession, the Canberra team won the Strata Community Management – Large Business award and automatically qualified the company as a finalist for the same category in the Australasia event.
Vantage Strata managing director Chris Miller said the feat was a first for the event and he “could not have been prouder” of his team.
“That’s probably the best word I can use to describe how I felt when we won – pride.”
Mr Miller said the mood at the Vantage Strata headquarters the morning after the awards was “elation”.
“Even though we’ve been at this for seven years now, there’s still a real electric, start-up vibe around the office,” he said.
“We get the sense that we’re doing something different than what’s been done before us.”

Mr Miller said he believed it was this energy that ultimately secured the award.
“Strata is a real legacy industry that’s starting to come out of the cottage mum-and-dad type approach of the past and stepping into a real professional services industry. I think we really embody that shift,” he said.
“We’ve structured our business to give strata managers fewer properties in their portfolios than industry standards.
“With those lighter loads comes an expectation that they give their properties very focused attention. I think that’s been the key ingredient to our success.
“It also creates a feedback loop in that we’re able to attract the best talent to our business because they recognise a professional career path for themselves.”
Vantage Strata also partnered with client IQ Apartments to win the Strata Community Environmental & Engagement award in recognition of a prioritisation of environmentally-friendly and sustainable practices.
But Mr Miller was adamant the credit belonged to IQ.
“We were there to help with the mechanics but the decisions that won them the award came from within their own ranks and chairperson.”

Vantage Strata’s Alistair Scott won the Professional Commitment to Service & Ethics award and Essay Award.
Independent Property Group also celebrated when two of its employees walked away with awards.
Brooke Walton won Strata Community Manager and Geraldine Jones won Support Team Member. The business was also named finalist in a number of other categories.
Independent Property Group general manager strata Julian Ortner-Kemp said the team deserved the “biggest congratulations” for its excellent outcomes at the awards.
“It shows the tenacity and hard work of true professionals and is wonderful to have them recognised in the industry,” he said.
Strata Community Association (SCA) is the peak body for industry managers, lot owners, tenants and stakeholders living in or affected by strata title, body corporate, community title and owners’ corporations. The award night is considered the big-ticket event to recognise excellence in the industry.
