Live music has been given another home in Canberra after Capital Brewing Co received a $35,000 Federal Government grant to put on events in 2021.
The Fyshwick brewery will start to host more live music shows from around April or May next year once the upgrades are complete, allowing musicians to perform out from the brew deck.
Capital Brewing Co managing director Laurence Kain says the venue has a bit of preparation ahead of it, but once completed it will be a place where Canberrans can once again enjoy live and local music.
“We had a bit of a program booked last year, which was a bunch of acoustic sets from iconic Australian bands, but we had to pull the pin on that so we are hoping to revisit it,” he tells Region Media.
“We just want to create a really cool vibe and a place for local musicians to play in and make a living from. There aren’t heaps of live music options in Canberra at the moment so once those works are completed in about April we are going to start doing events more regularly.”

Laurence, who founded Kicks Entertainment and started the Foreshore Festival, said the aim is to eventually expand into bigger events.
The works come 18 months after Capital’s $1.1 million expansion, which allowed the brewery to increase its annual beer production from 1.2 million litres to 4.5 million litres.
Canberra CBD music bar Sideway will also receive $23,000 under the Federal Government’s Live Music Australia program for infrastructure upgrades to increase live music performances.
The government program is part of the $31 million Australian Music Industry Package announced in March 2019.
