All funds raised go directly to supporting Lifeline’s crisis support and suicide prevention service.

On the morning of 10 September, to commemorate World Suicide Prevention Day, Lifeline Canberra and the Canberra community walked Out of the Shadows and into the Light to remember people who have lost their lives to suicide, and to discuss suicide prevention openly and in a supportive environment. 60 people gathered on the steps of the Australian War Memorial to mark the start of the walk to Anzac Parade.

Lifeline is an amazing force in our community and relies on the support of individuals and businesses to continue their work.

The ‘Touch of Life’ Corporate Touch Day is one way for local businesses to get involved, while encouraging wellbeing in their own organisations.

Registrations for the annual event are now open, which will be held on Friday October 12 at Deakin Playing Fields. The mixed round robin runs from 1 pm to 5:30 pm, followed by presentations and a networking function.

Now in its third year, the Touch Football competition was instigated by local accounting firm RSM, as a way to support Lifeline Canberra while promoting health and wellbeing in the community.

Local businesses pay a registration fee to enter their team, with all funds raised going directly to support Lifeline’s life-changing 13 11 14 crisis support and suicide prevention service.

Jenine Woodman, Events Manager for Lifeline Canberra, says “It’s a great afternoon, and an opportunity to really connect with others in the local business community. We all turn up at 1 pm to pizza and gelato (catered by EQ café), and then the playing starts.

“Each team plays 20 minutes of touch footy in a round robin until one team claims victory. Every year, we’ve had a different team win the trophy. It’s a great way for people to get out of the office for an afternoon.”

Corporate Touch Day will be held on Friday October 12 at Deakin Playing Fields.

Frank Lo Pilato, Managing Partner at RSM Australia, says the event began as a way to support Lifeline, and has grown into a fun team building afternoon and networking event for local businesses.

“We like to engage with local organisations and wanted to support what Lifeline stands for and aims to achieve in Canberra and Australia wide. For someone going through a tough time, there is help only a phone call away – but we need to help raise awareness so that person knows who to call.

“I really look forward to the day. It’s a great opportunity to bond with colleagues and share war stories, and meet other professionals from around town.”

Frank encourages others to join the fun this year, to support Lifeline and promote health and wellness throughout their organisation.

Registration cost is $1650 and includes:

  • Playing shirts
  • Food and refreshments
  • Team photos
  • A commemorative trophy for the winning team
