Nominations are now open for the 2018 ACT Women’s Awards and the ACT Women’s Honour Roll, recognising the achievements of female champions in the local community.
The 2018 ACT Women’s Awards recognise exceptional women in three categories: ACT Woman of the Year, ACT Senior Woman of the Year (60 years plus), and ACT Young Woman of the Year (16 to 25 years).
The Minister for Women, Yvette Berry, will present the ACT Women’s Awards and inductees to the ACT Women’s Honour Roll.
The ACT Women’s Awards are a part of International Women’s Day celebrations, which are held annually in the week of 8 March to recognise women’s achievements throughout history and across nations.
To be applicable to win these awards, the women will have made outstanding contributions and demonstrated excellence in improving the status and lives of women and girls in the ACT.
The winner of the 2017 ACT Women of the Year was Marie-Louise Corkhill, Executive Director of Karinya House -a not-for-profit community organisation dedicated to pregnant and parenting women in crisis – for over twenty years. She was recognised for her instrumental involvement in doubling the services provided by Karinya House, including establishing a special Mother and Baby Unit.
A variety of areas for nomination exists, which include arts and media, government and politics, human rights, justice and corrections, prevention of family violence, and community advocacy and inclusion.
Nominations close on Wednesday 17 January 2018. For more information and to access the nomination form, click here, or contact the ACT Office for Women on 6205 3614 or via email at [email protected].
